Pennsylvania Heritage Week 2001
During Pennsylvania Heritage Week, March 9-18, 2001, William Penn’s Charter of Privileges of 1701 will be on exhibit at The State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg. This year marks the three hundredth anniversary of this landmark document, which is on loan from the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia. With the Charter of Privileges, William Penn created one of the most democratic governments in the English Colonies. This Charter will be exhibited with the Charter for Pennsylvania which Penn received from King Charles II in 1681. On Sunday, March 11, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission will celebrate Charter Day by offering free general admission to the historic sites and museums that make up the popular and well-traveled Pennsylvania Trail of History.
