Executive Director’s Message
Written by William Wewer in the From the Executive Director category and the Winter 1981 issue Topics in this article:As past articles in Pennsylvania Heritage have suggested, Pennsylvania’s 300th anniversary, including a two-year celebration centered around special events and programs, is fast approaching. The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, in keeping with the spirit of the Tercentenary, has expanded its regular publishing program with the printing of three commemorative publications, two of which are now available.
The first of these two, Unity from Diversity: Extracts from Selected Pennsylvania Colonial Documents, 1681 to 1780 by Louis M. Waddell ($4.00), contains documents that represent or describe significant themes in Pennsylvania colonial history, The second, entitled William Penn, Architect of a Nation by John B. B. Trussell ($2.25), is a brief but comprehensive biographical sketch of the founder.
A third special publication is the Tercentenary issue of Pennsylvania Heritage ($2.50, $1.50 to subscribers), slated to appear in March 1981. The release of this commemorative issue will herald the approach of Charter Day on March 14, the day in 1681 when the colony’s charter was granted by King Charles II to William Penn.
The PHMC continues its publications program as a service to readers interested in a rich variety of historical material. It is the hope of the Commission that these special publications will provide a means for the reader to actively take part in and enjoy our Tercentenary celebration.
