Executive Director’s Message

From the Executive Director features news and reflections on the work of PHMC by its chief administrator.

With the quarterly publication of Pennsylvania Heritage, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission embarks upon a new venture. The Commission hopes that this magazine will provide a medium of communication for those persons interested in Pennsylvania history.

One of our chief goals in this new magazine is to recognize achievements in statewide historical activities, both private and public. Another aim is to foster the continual growth of existing historical societies as well as to stimulate interest in the development of new organizations concerned with the preservation of our historical heritage.

We hope, through Pennsylvania Heritage, to provide in-depth coverage in areas of Pennsylvania history that are significant, informative and interĀesting. Yearly, we plan to include a technical article to furnish readers with expertise in a particular area, for example, planning or developing existing local museums.

The first issue of Pennsylvania Heritage is being sent to you free in order to give you an understanding of what we hope to achieve with this magazine. Your comments will certainly be appreciated. Most of all, the Commission hopes that you will find this a rewarding and useful publication.
