Bookshelf provides descriptions and notices of recent publications on Pennsylvania subjects.

The American Association for Stale and Local History, 1400 Eighth Ave. South, Nashville, TN 37203 has announced the release of two new publications. Recreating the Historic House Interior is a handsome 260-page book with 108 photos including 12 color plates. William Seale is the author or the restoration guide which sells for $22 clothbound ($16 to AASLH members). Landscapes and Gardens for Historic Buildings by Rudy and Joy Favrelli is a 202-pagc handbook for reproducing and creating authentic land­scape settings. The illustrated paperbound volume is priced at $10 ($7.50 to AASLH members). Both books can be ordered from AASLH.

 

The Afro-American in Pennsylvania: A Critical Guide to Sources in the Pennsylvania State Archives by David McBride is now avail­able from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. The 36-page finding aid divides the holdings of the archives’ manu­script and record groups into seven historical periods from Slavery to the Modern Era. The guide is priced at $1.59 (including state tax) and can be ordered from the Commission, Box 1026 , Harrisburg 17120.

 

Pennsylvania Historical Bibliography: I. Additions Through 1970 compiled by John B. B. Trussell, Jr., has just been released by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, Box 1026, Harrisburg 17120. This 108-page book is the first of a series which will eventually bring the published bibliography on Pennsylvania history up to date. Orders should be sent to the Commission in­cluding payment of $3.50 plus $.21 state sales tax.

 

The Family Album, R.D. I, Glen Rock 17327. has just published the fifth book in its Keystone Series entitled Pennsylvania Books In Print. This 52-page book includes over 1.200 entries and can be purchased from the publisher for $4. Pa. residents add 6% sales tax.

 

Paintings and Sculpture at The Union League of Philadelphia by Maxwell Whiteman, Archivist of the Union League of Philadelphia, is an illustrated catalog of the art treasures held by the Union League written by a man both personally and professionally ac­quainted with the collection. This 159-page work contains brief descriptions of each work of art and its creator.
